How does Inheritance work in GroupID Automate?

I am creating a Dynasty which populates Child Dynasties. I am unable to understand the feature of inheritance!

Inheritance is used to set a base definition for creating child Groups with same selections set across the whole dynasty and a Dynasty is a distribution list that creates and manages other distribution lists using information in Active Directory.

When a dynasty creates children or when a child is updated, you can specify that the child inherits attributes from its parents.

Using GroupID Automate you can create a Dynasty with selected options. Once you create a Dynasty you can select the inheritance option as illustrated in the screenshot below,

    Inheritance

You can get to this screen by going through the following process,

    1. Open GroupID Management Console.

    2. Expand Automate Node.

    3. Expand All Groups.

    4. Expand Dynasties.

    5. Create a Dynasty (If you already have a dynasty then please skip this step).

    6. Right Click the created Dynasty and select Properties.

    7. From the GroupID Tab select Options and then click the Advanced Tab to open the illustrated window.

Here you will be given 3 options which should be selected per requirement. You can also set the Alias and Display name template for Child Groups here. The illustrated window is for Managerial Dynasty.

Thanks a lot for quick response.

I was actually trying to inherit Hide from Exchange Address list and the procedure you told me is not working for this option, am I missing any steps?

Re: How does Inheritance work in GroupID Automate?

You need to open GroupID Management Console and goto Configuration --> Modify System Configuration --> Dynasties (Tab) and click on "Modify".

As Illustrated in the screenshot below, you need to check the attributes defined in this Tab for inheritance. By default the attribute to inherit Hide from Exchange Address List is not added so you can need to manually include "msExchHideFromAddressList".

Once added, Dynasty update will always inherit this option.
