    Excluding a Sub-OU

I have searched through the forums and also 3.0 forums, and have not been able to find a way to exclude a sub-OU.

    The scenario  is like this:

    • I want to create a SmartDL group that includes all users under a certain OU (plus some other conditions that are not important here)
    • I want to exclude one OU that is under the main OU
    • I don't want to uncheck "Include sub containers" and uncheck the OU because then new OU's will not be included unless someone explicitly remembers to come in and check it off.  That is not automated.  (Of course, I'll have to resort to this if there is no other option.)

To this end, I was trying to formulate a condition under Advanced that says that the distinguishedName should not contain a certain string.  That would exclude all accounts under the ou with that name, because their distinguishedName would contain the name of the OU.  However, this causes *everyone* to be excluded, so obviously something is wrong with my condition.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Sandra

    Re: Excluding a Sub-OU

AD doesn't support partial matching on DN's (at least, I was never able to get it to work).  I think your only hope is to find something else that maybe the objects in the excluded OU have in common and add it to the query.  Other than that I think you will have settle with adding new OU when necessary.
