Upgrade to WD4: 404 - File not found error

    Hi

I am trying to upgrade an installation from WebDir v3.1 to v4, but when I create the virtual server and attempt to connect via IE, I receive a '404 - File not found' error.

This server also runs SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and Windows SharePoint Services v2.0, and has .NET 2.0 installed, and the virtual server created by WD4 is using the MSSharePointPortalAppPool.

There could be several things going on:

If you just installed .NET 2.0, it may not be registered on the IIS server or it may be prohibited in IIS extensions.  WebDIr should not run on the Sharepoint App Pool.  Create a new one for it to run on.

In my experience, the 404 error is usually a result of ASP.NET 2.0 not enabled in IIS extensions.

    Hi Robert

The ASP.NET v2.0.50727 extension is 'allowed' in IIS' Web Service Extensions.

I've also created a new application pool and assigned the virtual server to it. Now we get: 'Server Error in '/lmhwd4' Application'

Check the ASP version of the Virtual DIrectory in IIS.  Also, WebDir cannot be hosted on the same IIS Virtual Server as Sharepoint, but you can run it on a seperate VS o the same physical server.

    Hi Robert

I moved WebDir to a new virtual server and everything is now fine!

    Thanks a lot.
