Update Manager attribute in AD from Sql 2000 database.

    Hello,

I am trying to create a job that will update the Manager field in AD with each person's Manager's name.  I have a view in sql that my programmer created for me.  The view has the employee's username,"TJohnson" and the manager's full name,"Thomas Smith".  But I think I might have a problem with the Manager's name because in AD he is listed as Tom Smith not Thomas Smith.  Should I have the view changed to the Supervisor's username instead of the full name?  I have tried resolve option as suggested in another post but I am having no luck.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Jerry

    Hello Jerry,

Is the employee's username (TJohnson) the same value as his sAMAccountName in Active Directory?  If so, you can use the resolve transform to match the source field (employee's username) to the destination field (sAMAccountName) to resolve the issue.

Please post back with the results of your testing.  Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hi Robin,

Yes it is, but I seem to be having a problem with the manager's name importing in to AD.

     Thanks,

    Jerry

    Hello Jerry,

In the source file is the column name exactly "Manager's name"?  If so, please change the column name to "Manager" to see if it resolves the issue.  If you continue to experience difficulty, please contact the Imanami Support Team directly by calling 925-371-3000 option 3 or send an email to support@imanami.com.  When submitting the case via email, please reference this forum post in the email as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hi Robin,

In the sql view the employee column is strEmployee and the Manager column is strSupervisor.   I can have our programmer change the name from strSupervisor to Manager, but I didn't think the name of the column mattered.

    Thanks for your help.

    Jerry

    Hello Jerry,

Normally, it would not be an issue.  However, I am aware of a known issue using a pound sign (#) or single quote ( ' ) in the column name.  I just wanted to be sure that it wasn't the issue.  Now, I would like you to send to support@imanami.com the following information:

    1. Turn up logging in DTM to "Verbose" in the Tools-Options menu.  Rerun the DTM job.  Then send us a copy of the .dtmlog and .dtmreport file.  They are located at c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\Imanami\dtm3\jobs\<job name>\.

    2. A copy of your DTM job.  The job is located at c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\imanami\dtm3\jobs.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hi Robin,

Your suggestion worked to resolve the Manager name to the display name.

    Thanks,

    Jerry
