Users receiving periodic "WebDir Internal Error"

Periodically, users of WebDir at my organisation receive the following error.  The error message is followed by a "Operation" text area form element and a email text field form element to then be submitted.  No further errors are logged on the server.

The problem occurs randomly and then will fix itself so it is hard to isolate the cause.  Is this a version issue or something deeper.  We have been using it for some time and have only been experiencing these errors lately.

All users are using IE version 7.0.

If anyone could be of help then it would be much appreciated.

Re: Users receiving periodic "WebDir Internal Error"

    Hello Harmat11,

This error may be caused by the permissions provided to the WebDir 3.1 Proxy Account.  Please follow the steps provided below to see if it resolves the issue:

    1. Open the WebDir System Manager console.

    2. Go to the "Directory" tab to display the account being used to proxy permissions in WebDir.  The account is displayed in the "User name" field.

    3. Open Active Directory Users and Computer to validate the account is a member of the Domain Admins group.

    4. Go back to the WebDir System Manager console, then select Tools->Delete Application Space.

    5. Select Tools->Create Application Space.  Then type the WebDir proxy account's domain\username and password.  Click the "OK" button.

    6. Click on the "floppy disk" icon or go to File->Save to apply the change.

    7. Select the "Start menu->Run" on the machine that WebDir is installed.  In the open: field type "iisreset" to restart the services for Internet Information Services.

    8. Log into WebDir.

Please note: This issue is resolved in WebDir 4.0.  Upgrading to the latest build would also resolve the issue, as well.

Plese post back with questions about the information provided above.  Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

One more thing, you may want to check to ensure the WebDir proxy account's password to see if it has been changed recently.  If so, you will need to change the password for the account under the "Directory" tab in the WebDir System Manager console, as well.
